Day 19

[from Sonic The Hedgehog Returns]

Dear Diary,

Father says that Dr. Kintobor has turned bad. He wants to overthrow him and become the ruler of Mobius. He has taken over Scrap Brain Zone and begun building an army of robots, and worse, he appears to have converted Sir Charles' Roboticizer into a device that turns our own citizens into his mechanical slaves. It's horrifying to hear. I met Dr. Kintobor a few times before his accident, and he had seemed like a nice man, but now it appears that we are going to have to fight him.

I asked Father whether our armies would be enough to defeat Julian's robotic army. He said of course they were, he had total confidence in their abilities. General D'Coolette will be leading an attack on Scrap Brain Zone tomorrow to fight Dr. Kintobor and his army. I'm sure they will do fine.

***

Dear Diary,

General D'Coolette's army left today for Scrap Brain Zone, to head off Dr. Kintobor's growing forces. We shall probably have to wait before we hear the outcome of the battle. In the meantime, Father tells me that Dr. Kintobor's betrayal has hurt Sir Charles so deeply that he has retired from the field of science, and will now instead be looking after Sonic. Sonic has not visited recently, what with the accident his parents suffered, and I feel that with the events currently unfolding, it may be some time before we see each other again.

***

Dear Diary,

There has been a most shocking and tragic turn of events. General D'Coolette's army has been defeated by Dr. Kintobor's army of robots. The general himself has not returned, and Father says he has most likely been Roboticized, or worse, along with the others who did not return. Those who did include the general's son, Antoine. I'm told he is severely upset and refuses to talk to anyone. I cannot blame him. This turn of events has been most upsetting for us all.

Father is also stunned by the defeat of his best army. I do not know how we shall stop Dr. Kintobor now, and I can't help doubting that he does either. He seemed most melancholy at dinner earlier tonight. Surely there must be some means by which we can stop Dr. Kintobor's army? The monarchy surely cannot fall… can it?

***

Dear Diary,

Dr. Kintobor's territory, and his army, grow by the hour. Everywhere his armies conquer is stripped of its greenery, its beauty, and its natural resources - including its citizens. All are Roboticized, and join his ranks.

A short time ago, Dr. Kintobor sent out a worldwide broadcast stating that from now on he shall be known as "Dr. Ivo Robotnik", and the capital, Mobotropolis, shall be known as Robotropolis. I suppose that this name change is fitting. As Father said himself, it is as though Dr. Kintobor perished in that accident, and Dr. Robotnik was born.

While the capital does not yet belong to Dr. Kinto- Robotnik, his armies continue to advance, and the situation looks increasingly bleak. My father is gathering the rest of our armed forces in the capital for a final battle to defend it. He has told me that, if the worst should happen, Rosie is to take Sonic and I away from the palace and to a secret sanctuary hidden away inside the Great Forest. I hope it does not come to this, but I have a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that it can no longer be avoided. I refuse to concede defeat to Robotnik, but...

***

Dear Diary,

It is over. The capital has fallen. Robotnik has won.

I am writing this from the sanctuary within the Great Forest, a village known as Knothole. Sonic and Rosie are here with me; Sir Charles is not. Neither is my father. We do not know what has happened to them, but it is safe to assume the worst.

We are not the only ones here. Antoine, the fallen general's son, is with us; he is still not talking. As we fled the city Rosie found an abandoned baby, and she has taken it in as her own. There are a few others here, but not very many adults. If this is all that is left… how are we supposed to rebuild… how are we supposed to fight…

This can't be how it…
